Born and raised in the "Land Down Under", this young Filipina is a PROUD Aussie, granted she is pure Filipino. This little lady is, has been, and will forever be a picky dresser. And because of this, she often finds herself unable to find an outfit on the racks that she would actually want to wear. She has these two specific styles in which she likes to be found in, Conservative Classy and Vintage Chic. Good thing she has a keen eye on fashion and an imagination that has no boundaries. Combine these two together, and you get one amazing Fashionista. (: But before we get into the nitty-gritty of her fashionable ways, lets get to know her on a more intimate level.

Michelle is an introverted type of person who is a bit reserved in her own manner. She is definitely a firm believer in her faith; which plays SUCH a big part of who she is. And through deep contemplating and thought, stems forth some of her best work and creativity. When you first meet her, and become friends, she may seem like a very proper person. You know; courteous, conservative, a hard worker, and so on and so forth. Very "cookie-cut", if you understand the metaphor. But little did YOU know, this girl is more scatter-brained and clumsy than you know. Underneath her cool swag, and controlled attitude, she can be quite a character. (:

Something else that may be of interest about Michelle is that she is "tragically afraid of the dark". Lol! Her words, not mine. (: She explained that at nights when she would need a glass of water, it would be a battle between her speed and need to drink, versus......the dark. And although Michelle continues to come out the victor in each battle during the many nights, the dark remains the conqueror of this war. Hahaha! Good stuff. And this is all thanks to the movie makers of such movies like: The Grudge, Paranormal, and Urban Legend. You could also add this as one of her fears - animals. Big or small, she would rather not cross paths with them.

And last, but certainly NOT the least, before we move on with her clothes, there is one thing that should not go unnoticed about Michelle. Although she is a very talented designer, Michelle is actually, first and foremost, a musician. You could say that designing clothes is more of her "on-the-side" kind of thing. But profession-wise, she is a piano teacher. AND, she is also, as I've been told, a very good songwriter of Christian music. I must admit, I'm impressed. ^_^

Alright now, let's continue on about her with regards to her clothe making. Michelle has been making and designing her own clothes for 3 years now. This was brought about by both of her grandmothers. They were both avid and proficient dressmakers. Having been pushed into learning how to sew by her grandmothers, Michelle actually did not like it at first. If anything, she really dreaded the thought of sewing. However, when she was given the chance to BE the seamstress, instead of the live mannequin, she discovered how much fun it really was. I had asked her if she was willing to take her fashion to the next level; start her own brand, etc. But she replied with a resounding NO. Lol! She said that she would never want to either. The thought of starting her own clothing brand has crossed her mind before, but not in a good way. She said that the stress of keeping up with deadlines, the creation of the products themselves, and the management of the business in general would take away from her passion in clothe designing. Regardless, this does not mean she has not tried. At one point, Michelle was hired to design and make all the dresses used by the Maid of Honor, and Bride's Maid's for a wedding, and also helped alter the dress of the Bride. She said that she had lots of fun creating the dresses, and bringing the designs to life, but that it was almost too much pressure to handle. Ultimately, she decided that she would never do it again, unless it was for a friend.

Just a few more closing remarks before I end my post on the wonderful Ms. Michelle Calaguas. Dressmaking is definitely NOT just a pastime for her. It does much more for her than most would expect. It makes her feel beautiful, accomplished, refined, and gives her that sense of completion and satisfaction. But most importantly, it is a way for her to keep in touch with her roots. Having learned the same craft that her grandmothers and mother have learned themselves. She ultimately feels fulfilled knowing that she shares the same passion that they did at one time.

Well, hopefully this weeks "Featured Artist" was well worth the wait. I know, I'm kinda late on posting this one, considering the fact that I was having technical difficulties with my computer this morning. -__- But it's here now. So enjoy, and keep supporting my blog. (=
Yours Truly,
