If you thought boybands had died with the separation of Nsync and the Backstreetboys, think again. Boybands are popular all over Asia. Some include DBSK, Super Juniors, Fahrenheit, Arashi, and many more. But most asian boybands nowadays will most likely be found in certain Asian countries, such as: Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and China. And because of this, the likes of specific genres of music like Jpop and Kpop have boomed exponentially all over the globe. With fans ranging in the millions, there's no reason not to think so. Having said that, another Asian country that has decided to dip their feet into the boyband business is a little archipelago known only as, the Philippines. Yes, this is true my dear readers. My motherland now has her own boyband to boast about. They are known as XLR8, pronounced accelerate. But they are NOT whom I will be speaking of in this blog. Staying true to the purpose of my blog, I have found another, not well-known, boyband - Frappe Band. They hail from the "Pearl of the Orient" - The Philippines. Having been inspired by more old school boybands like Boyz II Men, their style of singing has a ballad-esque RnB sound to it. And let me tell you, THEY ARE THE BIDNISS!! No lie. But you don't have to take MY word for it. Listen for yourself and you decide. Here is their cover of God Must've Spent a Little More Time on You by Nsync. [**NOTICE!! Just letting you know that this was the orginal band members BEFORE!! It has changed now, with all but one being the same.] <--- Hope that made sense. ^_^ (singing begins at 1:20).

These guys are very quirky when they're together, even when they start singing. They have amazing voices, and when they sing, you can feel the joy that they feel while they sing. It's amazing. But like I said earlier, this is NOT the Frappe Band of today. The one playing the guitar has left the group. Therefore, I've decided to focus on the one remaining vocalist, JC Lim. I'm not gonna lie, this is kind of hard for me to do, considering he's part of a band and not a soloist like my usual 'Featured Artists'. Especially because the Frappe Band of today has new members, PLUS another vocalist. But I will do my best to incorporate the band as a whole into this post. (Sorry to the other bandmates!) Well, before I tell you all about JC, here is a video of the "transitioning" of new bandmates into the group, singing On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men... ACAPELLA. Enjoy! (: (singing begins at 0:34).

The harmony's are near flawless if you ask me. And a successful boyband, for me at least, has to consist of guys who can ACTUALLY sing, and not just look good. And they've got both; easy on the eyes and beautiful in the ears, all in one group. Need I say more? Lol! Also, they all have such powerful upper registers. It's crazy how well they can hit those high notes. I'm blown away every time. X]

Ok, now back to JC. He is a simple guy who is outgoing and loves to have fun. But before really getting into singing, he was a dancer. Most likely hip-hop. And was very much involved with basketball, swimming, and.... sleeping? Haha! Jk! Anyways, he started singing at the tender age of 5 years old. JC's music teacher, back in the day, was pleasantly surprised to find out that JC had some real potential. And, on that note, has encouraged JC to pursue singing. And boy, did he do so. He joined a very prestigious singing competition in the Philippines, known as Pinoy Pop Superstar. He got in, went through, and could've gone really far, but decided to stop because he wanted to focus on his studies. Which slightly bothers me, knowing he really had a chance at making it big. But everyone is entitled to their own decisions in life. So I judge not what he's decided. OK, so here is one last video of the band JC is in that I will show you guys. And THIS time, the video will show you ALL of the new members of the current Frappe Band. Lol! This is their cover of You Make Me Feel Brand New by Boyz II Men. (singing begins at 0:30).

I'm telling you now... their voices were literally made for singing. They got the low notes down to a 'T', they've got all the high notes on crystal clear falsetto, I mean come on now... where the HELL are all the record companies at?! If I had a record label of my own, they'd be signed in a heart beat. Personally, I feel like the music business has lost their way. They produce singers based on looks, marketability, and MEDIOCRE voices. It infuriates me. But hey, it's worked for them so far. The people have bought into the crap they've been served. But just as a DISCLAIMER, I'm not attacking ALL of the music industry. There are some amazing artists on mainstream today (i.e. Bruno Mars, Charice, and some others).

Anyways, steering back on topic, I asked JC what he would do if he was given the chance to be a star. He said, "...why not?" (: I agree. People always ask, why do you want to be a star? And a simple answer to that question is... why not? If you've got what it takes, why not, right? Who's to say you can't make it? I, for one, believe in opportunities. Everyone has them, but it's up to you to realize them and act upon them. The saying, "When life shuts the door on you, opportunity is there to open a window" only explains halfway. The truth is, opportunity CAN'T open that window from the outside if it's locked. YOU have to unlock it from the inside. So, to better explain this analogy, its like a give and take relationship. You can't expect things to be handed to you. That's why those who work hard, reap all that they deserve. So, as my last statement before I close out this post, is to urge all you "would be stars" to look for your locked window. Unlock it, and everything will fall into place. Believe me, it can happen. (:

Alrighty then, hope you guys liked this weeks "Featured Artist" - JC Lim. I know, I got a little personal when I started to rant on todays music industry. But its my blog and I can say whatever I want. Lol! Anyways, if the Frappe Band was just as good to you as they were to me, then you'd definitely want to subscribe to their youtube channel here. X] And don't forget to check out next weeks "Featured Artist". This artist will KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF! Trust me. (;

Yours Truly,
AJ T. (:
