Age: 24
Birthday: July 31, 1986
Location: Rio Linda, California
Nationality: Hmong
Talent: Singing, Dancing, Producing, Musician
Josh was restricted mostly to staying at home when he was in high school. So, pretty much, school work was his main focus. But was alleviated from the repetitious cycle of everyday with music as his escape. Listening to the popular music from back then, like: Nsync, Brian McKnight, Craig David, etc. Josh started to mimic the style of singing that those various artists had. And to his surprise, his voice most similarly expressed that of Justin Timberlake's - style and range of singing.
Josh was introduced officially to the music industry by his sisters husband who is a member of a well known RnB group called Legaci (you should check them out on youtube! ^_^). He got Josh to be more outgoing with regards to performing. Urging him to "get out" more and put himself out there. Here is an original composition of his called Hard To Let Go; this is just to wet your ears a little bit as to what he sounds like. Hope you guys like it! (: [Credit goes Ayeeitslori from youtube for the video. Thanks!] P.S. Don't mind the video. Lol! It was the best one I could find with THIS version of the song. (;
Josh's parents weren't very supportive in the beginning. Although they knew that Josh had a voice, they would tell him that singing wouldn't get him anywhere, and that he was just wasting his time. Josh, on one hand, started to agree with his parents, but knew within himself that singing was a passion of his that he could never give up. The moment in which Josh was able to sway his parents in the favor of his passion in singing was when he entered a competition one year in Stockton, California, and got first place! His parents then believed in his abilities. And from then on, supported him in all of his goals with singing, and even pushed him to not give up and have continued to encourage him to keep singing and performing.
He has been promoting his music since 2006. Josh was recognized in his hometown of Sacramento as Sacramento's up and coming artist for 2008(?). Josh has recently been producing music, trying to get other Hmong-American artists recognized in the music industry. He wants to help the youth in the Hmong community, who also aspire to become artists, have their chance to shine. Josh has also come to terms that he won't be an artist forever, and therefore has brought it upon himself to support the amazing talent within the Hmong community. As you can see, Josh is an avid supporter of his own community. He carries his nationality with pride. And that is very commendable. I salute you Josh, your efforts and hard work will not go unnoticed.
Alright, here is another original composition of his in his native tongue. The song is called Leej Muam Qeg Taub. In english, it means "Shorty". So, this song is dedicated to all the girls out there. Have fun listening! ^_^ [Credit goes to vangswt from youtube for the video. Thanks!]
Josh is definitely an artist to look out for in the near future. His music is easy to relate to for the youth nowadays. Anyways, this is the end of this weeks "Featured Artist". Hope you guys enjoyed his music. And please keep supporting my blog! I really appreciate all the feedback. You guys are awesome!
Yours Truly,
AJ T. (:
